The 6.5×52mm Carcano, also known as the 6.5×52mm Parravicini–Carcano or 6.5×52mm Mannlicher–Carcano, is an Italian military 6.5 mm (.268 cal, actually 0.2675 cal) rifle cartridge used in the Italian Army’s Carcano M91 bolt-action rifles and its variants from 1891 to 1945. It was developed by the chief technician Salvatore Carcano and was adopted as a standard military cartridge in 1891.

The 6.5x52mm Carcano round is a rimless bottlenecked design with a semi-rimmed case and a slightly tapered body that measures 52mm in length. The bullet diameter is .268 inches (6.8 mm). It has a muzzle velocity of 2,690 feet per second (820 m/s) and an effective range of 1,000 yards (914 m). The round has been used for hunting and target shooting since its introduction in 1891.

The Carcano M91 carbine is a bolt-action rifle chambered for the 6.5x52mm Carcano round that was used by the Italian army from 1891 to 1945 during World War I and World War II. It features an adjustable rear sight, a 17.7 inch barrel, and an internal magazine that holds up to six rounds of ammunition at once. The M91 carbine is considered to be reliable and accurate at medium ranges, making it popular among hunters and target shooters alike.

Today, the 6.5x52mm Carcano round is still widely available on the market for both hunting and target shooting purposes due to its popularity over time despite its age of more than 130 years old! With its long history of use in both wars and sport shooting activities, it’s no wonder why this classic round remains so popular today!

Note: It isn’t uncommon to find 6.5 Carcano ammo loaded with .264 diamater bullets, like that made by PPU.
