Gun Safety
Most reloaders are experienced shooters. All shooters regardless of experience need to be versed in safe handling of firearms and ammunition. Raven Rocks Precision takes safety seriously, and care must be taken during each step of the reloading process to ensure that you craft safe and reliable handloads.
Before you get started:
- Get data from multiple sources if possible.
- Make sure your working area is well lit.
- If it’s been a while, re-read the beginning of your load manual / press set-up instructions.
- Have only the components you’re loading in front of you.
While you’re loading:
- Take your time. You can even start with a few dummy rounds.
- If it doesn’t feel right, it’s probably not right.
- Verify your powder charges (more than one scale is helpful).
- Remeasure.
- Stay organized. Annotate your load data clearly on the ammo box, bag, etc.
After you’re finished:
- Store your powder and primers in a cool dry place (preferably not airtight).
- Avoid leaving your reloading equipment in humid environments.
- Wash your hands. Lead is toxic.
It cannot go without saying, preparing your ammunition is only one step in firearms safety. We encourage all of customers to abide by the four fundamental rules of gun safety, as well as safe storage of their firearms. When testing your handloads, remember that there are many variables when it comes to shooting—from the firearm itself, to the environment, to the ammunition components. Determining the perfect load for your firearms is a process that should be enjoyed. Do it safely, and best of luck in your load workups.
