9mm Frangible Bullets: Our Best Selling Product!
Hey, this is Bill with Raven Rocks Precision. I’ve got something pretty exciting to talk about today: one of our bestselling products of all time—our 9mm frangible bullet. Click to read entire video transcription
So what is a 9mm frangible bullet? It’s designed to dissipate all of its energy on impact. This one in particular is a copper-polymer frangible bullet. It’s primarily copper, with a polymer compound that binds it together. They’re lighter in weight, but as you can see, they’re about the same size as a 147-grain jacketed hollow point bullet—like the one I’m holding here from Sierra.
Loading them is a little different, and they perform differently too. But the good news is we’ve sold millions of these to a lot of happy customers—at an extremely competitive price point. Right now, they’re on sale starting at just 4.7 cents each. It’s almost a no-brainer to give them a shot.
One of the best parts is we have a bunch of load data on our website, contributed by many of our customers. So if you’re new to loading frangible bullets, there’s a great starting point ready for you.
We also offer other options. We’re direct with Inceptor, a U.S. manufacturer of copper-polymer matrix bullets. One of their most popular options is the ARX. We’ve sold millions of those too, and while they’re mostly sold out, we still have some 94-grain ones in stock. They’re incredibly popular and still available at that same great price.
We also have lighter-weight options, like the 65-grain flat nose and the 65-grain pointed nose. These run a bit faster than the 94-grain versions. The 94-grain was originally developed for military and law enforcement contracts and typically works best with a faster-burning powder. Most folks have had success with Tightgroup, but there are several other powders that work well too.
On the table here, we’ve also got some 9mm brass. While we know many of our customers reuse their handgun brass, we still sell a lot of it—and some of our offerings are a bit unique. For example, we have 9mm brass that’s pre-primed with a lead-free primer. Pair that with these copper-polymer bullets, and you’ve got completely lead-free ammunition. That’s useful not just for personal safety but also to meet regulatory requirements in certain countries or ranges.
We also offer nickel-plated brass—specifically Nosler 9mm +P. It pairs well with any 9mm bullet but is especially great for defensive loads. Nickel plating adds corrosion resistance and helps the brass feed more smoothly through your action. Plus, it’s a great price for brand-new, premium brass.
To sum it all up: 9mm frangible bullets are excellent for training. They’re designed to dissipate energy on impact, making them ideal for shooting steel at close range with reduced risk of ricochet. They’re perfect for indoor ranges or close-quarters training scenarios. At 4.7 cents each, it’s one of the best values for new 9mm bullets. They’re lead-free, made in the U.S., accurate, and safe for a wide range of applications.
We’ve already sold millions of them. When they’re gone, we’ll try to restock—but probably not at this price. Like all our best deals, don’t wait too long—they might be gone before you know it. Read Less
Frangible 9mm bullets are engineered for one purpose: safety without compromise. Whether you’re training indoors, shooting steel targets, or running high-speed close-quarters drills, frangible ammo gives you the performance you need — without the risks of ricochet or over-penetration. These bullets are designed to disintegrate on impact with hard surfaces, making them ideal for environments where traditional full metal jacket (FMJ) rounds can be dangerous.
At Raven Rocks Precision, we stock in-demand frangible 9mm bullets built for high-volume training and professional use. Our inventory includes copper-polymer matrix bullets that are lead-free, clean-burning, and ready to ship. Whether you’re a law enforcement trainer, competitive shooter, or tactical instructor, frangible rounds offer a safer way to stay sharp.
What Are Frangible 9mm Bullets?
Frangible bullets are made by compressing powdered metal — usually copper or tin — into a solid projectile. Unlike conventional bullets, they don’t use a lead core or full metal jacket. Instead, they’re built to break apart into dust upon hitting a hard surface. This design drastically reduces the chance of ricochet, spalling, or over-penetration in close-quarters environments.
Frangible 9mm rounds are ballistically consistent with standard FMJ ammo, but safer for steel targets and indoor use. They’re especially effective in shoot houses, steel plate matches, and simulations where shooter safety is paramount.
Why Choose Frangible Over FMJ?
While FMJ is great for general range work, it’s not always the right choice for close-quarters training or high-density ranges. Frangible 9mm bullets are:
- Lead-Free: Safer for shooters and range staff, especially indoors
- Low-Risk for Ricochet: Disintegrates on impact with steel or concrete
- Compliant with Indoor Range Policies: Many facilities now require frangible-only ammo
- Cleaner: Minimal airborne particles and less barrel fouling
- Environmentally Responsible: No toxic lead residue left behind
What to Know Before Buying
When choosing frangible 9mm bullets, here’s what to consider:
- Bullet Weight: Most frangible bullets come in 90–100 gr. They shoot flatter and faster than 115gr+ FMJs and reduce felt recoil.
- Material: Look for compressed copper or copper-tin blends — they break consistently and leave less residue.
- Firearm Compatibility: Safe for use in all standard 9mm handguns and PCCs. No special equipment required.
- Training Purpose: Ideal for target training, tactical drills, and steel shooting — not for self-defense or barrier penetration.
